Replacing a Polyacrylamide Emulsion Grade: Qualification Checklist

Qualify a replacement PAM emulsion through product identity, inversion compatibility, equal-basis trials and controlled changeover rather than descriptive equivalence.

01

Set the purchase boundary

A replacement described as equivalent should be treated as a candidate, not an approved substitute. Similar charge labels or neat appearance do not prove that the material will activate through the same skid or meet the same separator endpoint across normal feed variation.

Identify the proposed commercial grade and the operating condition that must be demonstrated before an order is released.

02

Translate the incumbent record

Collect the current product code, active basis, preparation instructions and measured machine result. Where composition is proprietary, state the operating requirements rather than inventing a one-to-one formulation match. Use the supplier specification checklist to expose fields requiring clarification.

Define which attributes are mandatory and which can be accepted through performance evidence; do not assume identical numbers from different methods mean identical polymers.

03

Test both preparation routes fairly

Begin with grade-appropriate preparation and record any changes required for the candidate. Compare controlled solutions against the same feed, then verify the plant can reproduce the successful method. A replacement that requires unavailable aging volume or unstable low-flow metering may be commercially unsuitable.

Keep the reference solution in the trial so a changing feed is not mistaken for an improvement caused by the new product.

04

Make the release conditional

Agree a limited initial quantity and a documented changeover plan. Record residual incumbent material, line isolation, candidate arrival and stabilization time. Retain a recovery route that does not rely on uncontrolled mixing of unidentified emulsions.

Final release should require representative machine data and a clear product code linked to the quoted supply, not only a favorable supplier laboratory report.

05

Check the difficult case

If the proposed replacement works only after increasing activation time beyond the installed system capacity, it has not passed the current equipment requirement. Review an explicit equipment change or reject that operating scope rather than concealing the limitation in the purchase specification.

Keep unresolved limitations in the qualification record instead of presenting a proposed benefit as an established operating result.

06

Record the acceptance evidence

Retain the sample code, lot, preparation method and measured feed with the purchasing decision. Compare subsequent deliveries with that record, using the same test conditions wherever practicable.

07

Request a scoped offer

Provide the incumbent data sheet if available, actual inversion flows, water quality, separator results, substitution reason and expected volume. Ask for a candidate recommendation with its qualification limits clearly stated.

Send the evidence through the sample and quotation form. Review packaging and lot controls with Gongyi Xinqi Polymer Co., Ltd., and confirm grade availability and order terms before committing.
