01

Characterize sludge before the trial

Primary, waste-activated, digested and industrial sludges differ in charge demand, bound water and shear response. Capture feed solids, volatile fraction where available, blend, age, temperature and current polymer use.

Establish baseline centrate or filtrate quality, cake solids, throughput and machine settings before introducing a new emulsion grade.

02

Separate activation from grade performance

Confirm water flow, emulsion pump calibration, contact shear and solution aging before ranking products. A blocked injection valve or incomplete inversion can create high centrate solids that look like a chemistry failure.

Use a repeatable bench drainage or shear screen to narrow candidates, then let the actual machine decide the final operating window.

03

Compare whole-machine economics

Hold mechanical conditions stable long enough to measure capture, cake, torque or belt speed, throughput and wash-water demand. Normalize polymer to active product per dry solids and include disposal or return-load effects.

Release the commercial grade only after a repeat run confirms performance across representative sludge.
